Beyond Meat Suspends COO for Biting of Man’s Nose
- grumblepeet 4y agoDoes it turn you into a cannibal? I hope not, I had one of their burgers earlier this evening and have been eyeing my partners ear for about an hour…

- bobsmooth 4y agoWe all have our bad days.
- tomcam 4y agoYeah but that was a little too on the nose...
- heavyset_go 4y agoI don't know about you, but my bad days don't end with me violently disfiguring random people with my teeth.
- scarby2 4y agoI mean we know he bit the guy. We don't know how hard.
- infamouscow 4y agoI don't think we should ever normalize violence.
- bombcar 4y agoNow it can be tech news?
- philip1209 4y ago"Beyond meat suspends COO for taking a bite of meat"
- kelseyfrog 4y agoTruly, beyond meat.
- honkycat 4y agoGreat reminder that there are psychopaths and unwell people all around us. Imagine how many good employees this psycho drove out of the company
- colechristensen 4y agoThere are also very temporary things that cause something like this. Drug problems, head injuries, strokes, etc. can cause some very unreasonable behavior.
- scarby2 4y agoI went through a particularly bad phase and was unable to sleep for about a week. I wasn't violent but to say i was a rational human being after 3 days would be a lie. I don't have a lot of memory but i remember thinking my leg had been cut off and what would happen if i tried to wiggle my toes, only to realize that i still had my toes.
- KennyBlanken 4y agoOn the flip side: executive leadership positions tend to end up with quite a few psychopaths. As long as they don't step over the line of what their privilege and power lets them get away with, they keep heading upward.
- threatofrain 4y agoWe have so little information to go on and these press releases / news articles are very sparse. We should restrain from calling people psychopaths until we have some retrospection on the matter.
- Rooster61 4y agoOh boy, this is gonna fuel the anti-plant based meat crowd for months. It's Mike Tyson's ear biting all over again
- samketchup 4y agoCalling this stuff plant-based isn't fair to those looking for healthy food. It's just a combination of plant oils that are horrible for your body. Oh, and the COO tried to eat someone's face in a parking lot.
- beej71 4y agoYep. Always check the saturated fat on these things before you buy them if you're trying to cut down.
- mattbessey 4y ago> It's just a combination of plant oils Sounds plenty plant-based to me. Why conflate plant-based with healthy? Plenty of people, myself included, have turned to meat-alternatives to reduce our environmental impact. I am under no illusions that it is healthy for me! You can fry potatoes in a vat of vegetable oil, or you can cook skinless chicken breast in boiling water. Using plant content as a proxy for health makes no sense.
- Smaug123 4y agoDetails about the nose-biting are not in the OP, but are present in e.g. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62964369 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62964369 .
- cdubzzz 4y ago> Douglas Ramsey, 53, faces charges of "terroristic threatening" and third-degree battery, court records show. Of course we are lacking true details here but “terroristic threatening” sounds… interesting?
- xeromal 4y agoTerroristic threats can kind of be a misnomer. Back in my youth, my buddies were driving in a jeep and ended up getting in a scuffle with another truck drive. My friend threw an empty Gatorade bottle at the driver and he followed them while calling the police. The cops charged my buddy with terroristic threats. They definitely deserved a charge, but I always thought Terroristic Threats was a strange one to choose.
- tablespoon 4y ago> They definitely deserved a charge, but I always thought Terroristic Threats was a strange one to choose. Is this a case where meanings have diverged? In modern colloquial speech "terrorism" means certain kinds of extreme political violence (e.g. bombings) especially that committed by Islamists (e.g. al Qaeda and ISIS). "Terroristic threats" feels like it's legal jargon that may predate that by quite a bit.
- xeromal 4y agoThat sounds spot on. These laws were probably on the books before the terrorism of the 90s/2000s took place.
- Ekaros 4y agoAlso the bond sounds pretty low, at least for someone who probably has somewhat substantial holdings.
- Havoc 4y agoTomorrow: Beyond meat announces long pig flavoured product
- Ekaros 4y agoShould have made some nose meat substitutes too and this could have been avoided...
- BitwiseFool 4y agoSure, it tastes like nose but does it pass the sniff test?
- slickrick216 4y agoCannibalism is what comes after veganism we are just early on the mass adoption curve.
- smm11 4y agoSo eat Beyond Meat, crave real meat, turn to cannibalism? I'll just stick with old-school meat, thanks.
- robga 4y agoFor all we know it may be Fake Nose.
- sudden_dystopia 4y agoHe got sick of eating all that human pet food.
- carabiner 4y agoI just tried their jerky. It's not bad, like eating big pieces of bac'n bits.
- effingwewt 4y agoThis sounds terrible. I don't know about the jerky but their burgers remind me of old school cafeteria soy bean burgers. And not in a good way. First time I had bacon bits I was grossed out, but thought they were a good idea. Tried real bacon dried and crumbled on a salad and man was it good. Still prefer my salads green, though.
- pessimizer 4y agoThe Razorbacks are serious business.
- gertlex 4y agoI saw this headline yesterday (google news on phone), and it was paired with a separate article about the stock price. I hadn't realized they had fallen so precipitously since IPO'ing a few years ago.
- bombcar 4y agoThe signs were there for those who looked - lots of hype and deals and product but hardly anyone saying they’d buy a second one. The shelves languished forever and the products got cut once the marketing deals were over.
- colpabar 4y agoThis[0] has some actual info. What I'm wondering is why a former Tyson exec is doing on the board of a fake meat company. Is there anything in common between the two industries? Also, there's no way this guy wasn't wasted if he's attacking someone for bumping into his car after a football game. It'd be nice to see him actually get punished, but of course, probably not. - pdpi 4y ago"Tyson"? Wow. That's... appropriate I guess?
- Overtonwindow 4y agoWell, to really get down to the meat of it...
