Gays Against Groomers Get Financially Deplatformed
- anigbrowl 4y agoLooks like astroTERF isn't really catching on with consumers.
- Manuel_D 4y agoI wonder if there's going to be a resurgence of sending checks via mail to circumvent payment processor shenanigans. Back in the day we'd [1] fill out a catalog with the items to be purchased, put it in an envelope with a check, and mail it. Much higher latency than online ordering, but more resilient to de-platforming. 1. And be "we" I mean stories I've heard of how things worked before widespread adoption of the internet. Even at 30 I'm too young to remember doing this myself.
- twawaaay 4y agoThere are more and more countries that are on a path to ban physical cash. Pretty chilling when put in this context.
- selfhoster11 4y agoThat’s exactly why I’m watching the progressing “upgrade” of the West to cashless transactions with mounting horror. Financial censorship in real time.

- perrygeo 4y ago> This is how soft totalitarianism works: no gulags, no jail time, just being excluded from the marketplace. Are we supposed to take this rhetoric seriously? The marketplace IS excluding certain types of expression, this is true. In fact it's American conservatives who, for the past generation, have pushed hard for uncompromising free market solutions to every social problem. Remember the "gay wedding cake" legislation? Congrats! Now societal norms can be defined by the market, instead of by inalienable human rights. And now that the market is saying something conservatives don't like, they tuck tail and change the narrative? I hope they realize how pathetic and cowardly this looks.
- quantified 4y agoFree societies and markets can ostracize anyone and anything. I'd guess that payment processors deplatforming porn sites would not be the subject of the conservatives' concern. (Though they can change my mind with evidence.) I'd rather the payment streams stay open for all these things, we just don't want to keep ratcheting up the discontent.
- quantified 4y agoSo full of weird assertions: > that opposing CRT means... that you still think 2 + 2 = 4 As if any of the CRT scare was about actual CRT, and noting that it's academics who tend to be up on their math skills and support the actual CRT. > Phones will be tracking people, of course, and phones being in the same location at the same time, big red flag. Well, our surveillance state runs on private industry using police rules favored by conservatives, so reap what you sow. > orthodox Christians and other soon-to-be-unpersoned groups need to really start understanding and preparing for a life as “untouchables.” That just seems like paranoia. Maybe untouchable in enclaves of coastal cities, but how many atheist, Muslim or Satanic radio and TV stations are there? I don't like the aggregation of a social credit score either. The tech could be in anyone's hands, for example Palantir. We will end up with a few Little Brothers instead of one Big Brother. Meanwhile, there's little content on the Gays against Groomers website. It'd be nice to see what they're about. They've chosen some unfortunately charged terminology. I don't have a problem with drag storytime (kids like costumes, bring your own) but if stories of encouraging kids to stick a dollar in the thong are true, that's distateful. What's the line between being girly and being sexual, if there is one? And TG athletics are a third rail that needs to be touched and discharged.
