Can You Ditch Your Car for an E-Bike? Maybe
- LinuxBender 4y agoFor about half of the year I possible could. It's dangerous around my area as it is not really designed for bikes, but it is doable. Near and during winter it is not even remotely possible. The roads are too dangerous and the bike path is covered in multiple feet of snow and ice. The bike path also ends where the town begins and sidewalks are not cleared of snow. The highway also gets a bit of ice and is surrounded by a wall of snow leaving nowhere to evade motorists and people here do not slow down for snow and ice. The people passing through are unaware they need to slow down in snow squalls. I've had to install high powered emergency lights on my vehicle to avoid being rear-ended. I will eventually sell my old mountain bike and get an e-bike. There are endless mountain trails here to use it on when the snow is gone. I've been holding out for battery tech and the motors to improve and for more e-bike manufacturers to gain good reputation but I think that time is almost near based on the hundreds of e-bike videos I have watched.

- HardwareLust 4y agoDefinitely could do it at least 8-9 months out of the year. The rest of the time snow and ice would make it dangerous or impossible to ride a bike. Thankfully I can get to/from work and local shops without using a freeway, so that makes it easier.
