Searching online “how to break your arm”
- norwalkbear 4y agoIf ww3 starts, I'll be searching the same. I will not die on foreign soil.
- kvdveer 4y agoDon't worry. If it's truly the start of a world war, chances are you can die on your home soil.
- jjgreen 4y agoWe in London should be safe as it's mostly owned by Russian oligarchs ...
- rad_gruchalski 4y agoI’m really sorry to break it to you but the Russian state tv already proclaimed that their first nuclear targets should be London and Germany.
- UncleEntity 4y ago“No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country.”
- throwawayconsc 4y agoAs a conscript (yep, in real life), I've found the practice of conscription questionable and have during service heard anecdotes of ways that might seem strangely humorous to render themselves less useful in the military. While I have not attempted anything more unusual than calling in sick on days I feel absolutely flat (I am a human being not a machine, mind you), my fellow conscripts and I were no strangers to stories of broken limbs and other ailments. Notably, it's not uncommon to come across fit-looking folks who were active in some sport back in school and outside of military facilities being medically unfit for military service. As someone who has this burden to bear (yep I get how this is related to national security etc.), I just don't particularly fancy this responsibility. There's a part of me that wishes I didn't exist if I could have things my way. Forced conscription/enlistment is a hell of our own design; a necessary evil as some say. I hope future generations come up with better means than mandatory human enlistment (maybe enlist machines instead).

- netsharc 4y agoGeez, the scale is the last 7 days, so if the graph's projection is correct, these are from the civilians with military training who now have been mobilized. I do feel sorry for the average Russian, now they're about to be fucked because of one nutjob's Covid-isolation insanity.
- gjm11 4y agoWhy do you think this has anything to do with Covid isolation?
- netsharc 4y agoOne of the theories is that Putin went mad from the isolation, and he was spending time reading the history of Russia, now he wants to make Russia Great Again. Your question makes me realize it makes me sound like I'm part of the "It's just a flu, governments are overreacting! Fascists!" crowd, which I'm not. In any case, Putin looked like he was paranoid for his own safety, and he is the Russian government, if he didn't like the isolation he didn't have to do it.
- villgax 4y agoBroken arms & glass socks
- pessimizer 4y agoI want to upboot this, but I'd be responding to the truth of something that I'm not at all getting from the attached graph. Can anybody clarify how that graph shows a massive increase in searches on "how to break your arm" from Russia? I don't understand Russian, the scale of the graph seems single- or double-digit, and the curve is skating across the bottom of it.
- dpkirchner 4y agoThis is from Google Trends and they don't provide specific figures on exactly how many searches there are per hour. Instead they show relative values where 100 is the max ("peak popularity for the term"). You can see the results for yourself at https://trends.google.com https://trends.google.com
- dvfjsdhgfv 4y agoI remember my friend telling me the crazy things he did in order do avoid draft during the Vietnam War - not washing for a month, smelling shit and so on. But consciously breaking one's arm seems like a far more desperate move. Kind of sad when you think longer about this. Times have changed and common people still have to fight against their will just because their monarch says so. One would think we've evolved past that stage already.
