Can this not be at least partially solved by relying more heavily on a user's feedback(like/ dislike buttons, numerical rating systems, and any other feedback mechanisms) to better understand preferences of the viewer? Along with simply being more patient and diligent when trying to discern actual user desire?
It seems like the problem of asymmetry in recommendation platforms is more a choice from a design perspective than a challenge yet to be figured out.
I'm far from an expert tho so just a thought from a laymen
- xani_ 4y agoThey sell ads, not a good user experience. For them to sell user experience they'd need to have competition breathing down their necks first
- benj111 4y agoYou can't sell ads to someone who's given up watching because they can't find anything interesting.
- c4ptnjack 4y agoExactly what I'm getting at, well said. Rip when Vimeo being actually competitive.
- thejynxed 4y agoVimeo will never be effective because they've already issued a statement that they neither want to be like YouTube or host the same variety/types of content.
- c4ptnjack 4y agoOh yeah.. i wouldn't even dream of Vimeo being anything like we're talking about in the future lmao. But there was a time where it seemed like it could be what the people deserved, even if it was just teenage optimism lol
