German producer prices post surprise record jump in August (+45.8%)
- mikewarot 4y agoThere's a huge amount of energy embedded in the things we consume. This is a natural and predictable consequence of the disruption of the flow of stored ancient sunlight that is only priced by the cost of it's extraction and transport. Economics ignores anything that's not in the price signal, such as the fact that we're depleting this resource millions of times faster than it is being replaced.
- lm28469 4y agoMost people don't (want to?) understand this very basic fact. We've depleted billions of years of free "work" (made by nature/earth) in a few centuries. All we care about is short term profit and short term growth, even if we very well know we're digging our own grave in the process
- yrgulation 4y agoResource poor countries, such as Germany, will continue seeing spikes in consumer goods prices for the coming decade. I wonder how long this increase can continue until social unrest becomes unmanageable.
