Tell HN: Be aware of the Cloudflare vanity name servers
Cloudflare has been suggesting vanity name servers, which is an automated process to get that and generate the name server records. This, of course, is not enough - you also need to manually submit a ticket to them if they are your registrar, and so far, after more than 3 calendar days, they have not updated our domain putting our email delivery at risk. If you're using decent domain registrars (they don't seem to be one!), this feature is built right into the interface, and you can do this yourself. Not with Cloudflare! After submitting an urgent-level request, 2-3 hours later, there was no response. Then I reached a general support team member on chat and they promised that this will be escalated (although priority was already "urgent"). It didn't get escalated - it got de-escalated to "high". And more than 72 hours later, the issue still exist and MxToolbox gives us a bunch of warnings and our email ends up in spam! So, the moral of the story is that you shouldn't use Cloudflare for domain registrations! if it takes them days to attend urgent issues, and you cannot chat or speak to their registrar department!
- nathanaldensr 4y agoWhat the heck are you talking about?
- nikolay 4y agoCloudflare messing up your DNS setup when you enable a feature they suggest to you and then taking more than 72 hours to hear back from them.
- bombcar 4y agoWhat are vanity name servers?
- ahazred8ta 4y ago"With custom (or vanity) nameservers, a domain can use Cloudflare DNS without using the hostnames of Cloudflare-assigned nameservers." Apparently the OP's email-sending domain does not yet have a valid DMARC/DKIM config due to the delay.

- jonas-w 4y agoWhy would vanity name server have anything to do with mail deliverability?
- nikolay 4y agoThere are many things lowering the reputation score of a domain. Not having a proper DNS setup lowers the score and degrades deliverability.
- 7e22v837278gb1p 4y agoTransfer your domain to another registrar.
- nikolay 4y agoThat's what I'm considering. In most cases, all registrars do the same 99.9% of the time. The only difference is security and pricing, of course, but most already cover most requireents. The huge difference is during that 0.1% of the time when you have an issue and it needs to get resolved fast. If you can't even get somebody on the phone, on the chat primarily being there for new sales, or let them update a ticket within a couple of hours, then they don't deserve to be your registrar.
