The thing that bothers me the most about TikTok is how it's allowed to operate with little restriction in the US but US-based companies do not have nearly the same level of freedom to operate in China e.g. fb is banned in CPP).
- malshe 4y agoAbsolutely. This is so damn puzzling to me.
- pessimizer 4y agoUS-based companies can operate in China if they respect Chinese laws. TikTok isn't given any special privilege to operate outside of US law.
- sarchertech 4y agoThat is essentially a meaningless statement. If there was a Chinese law that stated foreign companies had to turn over 90% ownership to the government, your statement would still hold true.
- flyaway123 4y ago"Your house, my rules." Is this what you are suggesting?
- subroutine 4y agoIf someone's house rules are so strict that nobody wants to hold game night there, yet this person loves playing in other people's (far less restrictive) homes, how long before we stop inviting them?
- perlwle 4y agoYou don't invite friends to your home just because his/her mom has strict rule in their home?
- subroutine 4y agoIn terms of adult game nights (or potlucks, parties, etc.), the standard etiquette is everyone takes a turn playing host (since there is some cost incurred/liabilities playing host). Would you feel entitled to attending such social gatherings, even if your house rules are so vastly different than everyone else's they dissuade anyone from coming? Also, anthropomorphizing, China is not my friend. More like arch rival, perhaps even nemesis. Canada can come over whenever.

- npteljes 4y agoI feel it's similar to how medical experiments, and production is done in China, which would be unlawful in the original country. I think everyone just exploits as much as they can.
- DoItToMe81 4y agoWhat? How, as an adult, can the fact that different countries have different laws surprise you?
