Ask HN: Are Embedded Engineers Slaves?
(If we remove the salary from the equation)
- mtmail 4y agoFirst time I read about this. Do you have a source?
- jethronethro 4y agoCan you elaborate on this? A few more details would be useful. If we remove the salary from the equation for any job or for any type of worker, does that make them a slave or a volunteer? I'd say the latter, if only because unlike slaves volunteers can get up and leave whenever they want. To be honest, though, I find the slavery comparison to be more than a bit offensive.
- frozencell 4y ago> slavery By slave, I mean ‘Slavonic (*captive*)’, there shouldn't be a taboo necessary with that word. > Saqaliba refers to the Slavic mercenaries and slaves in the medieval Arab world in North Africa, Sicily and Al-Andalus. Edit: therefore I mean, are embedded engineers captive [0] of progress? (It's not an interesting question, sorry) [0] Because of compensations, local law (?), societial pressure
- devonnull 4y agoHuh? What are you on about?
