Spring is becoming more functional programming oriented: https://www.baeldung.com/spring-5-functional-web https://www.baeldung.com/spring-5-functional-web. Also functional bean definitions, etc. Perhaps mostly driven to be able to (more easily) use graalvm to generate native images.

Not sure that is such a big step-up — I would rather prefer a much deeper support for records over POJOs.
