Normans and Slavery: Breaking the Bonds
- wrp 4y agoI've recently done quite a bit of reading into the period around the Norman conquest. I'm American, so take this as a view from the outside, but English historians appear to be strongly divided between pro- and anti-Normans. Imagine if South American historians were similarly divided, with one side arguing that La Conquista was a good thing because the Spanish brought civilization to the Incas. The author of TFA appears to lean towards the pro-Norman side. I've read some of his stuff before. George Garnett's The Norman Conquest: A Very Short Introduction (2009), will give you a good taste of the anti-Norman perspective.
