- fhsm 4y agoI have a clear memory of my first team lead telling me to be mindful because “meta work is always more fun than work” when I was fussing with my vimrc. It has stuck with me and I’m yet to see a counter example to it. The rub is that great tooling is ultra high leverage and work adjacent fun is good for the spirits and a sort of intelectual cross training. So make that 62
- whatarethembits 4y agoFuel is essential to get a car moving forward. For people that’s motivation, and if doing “meta work” keeps engagement topped up and away from burn out, it’s absolutely just as justified as “actual work”. Natural tech debt build up in codebases as part of usual development process gets a fair amount of attention, but we don’t seem to address the “debt” build up on each developers’ mind over time as they notice things that they’d like to tune. It’s important to empty that cache every now and then :)
