I have a Sony Bravia from the 2010s (a dumb one) that has a standby mode, engaged when you power off the TV via remote. The TV also turns off-off when you use the physical button, but there's seemingly no functional difference, the unit still powers on via remote if fully off. I have a feeling that all the physical power button really does is put the unit on standby, but also turn off the little red standby LED.
