How to Access the WiFi Scanner in Mac OS X Yosemite
- troydavis 4y agomacOS comes with a pretty good wifi scanner. It even recommends the best channels for common frequency ranges, like this: https://letstalk-tech.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Screen-Shot-2014-12-29-at-16.38.54.png https://letstalk-tech.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/20... It's buried in the Window menu of the Wireless Diagnostics app, though.
- porbelm 4y agoIt thought most WiFi routers these days auto-adjusted their channel based on other nearby signals?
- troydavis 4y agoTheoretically that's true: the feature is there and the default is "Auto." Alas, channel autodetection turns out to be pretty bad, even on modern implementations like the TP-Link Archer series. https://superuser.com/questions/1311149/why-do-wifi-routers-do-such-a-bad-job-of-channel-selection https://superuser.com/questions/1311149/why-do-wifi-routers-... has why. Basically, it's not dynamic enough. Sometimes that's because they didn't bother implementing channel changes at runtime, so it decides at boot and sticks with that for what could be months.
