We treat thrift stores as our "off-site storage unit" and the amazing thing is it's a distributed storage site. When we don't use a thing we drop it off at the nearest thrift store. If we need it back we just hit the thrift stores around town until we find something close to what we were looking for and for a nominal fee we get it back.

- troyvit 4y agoWhen spending an extra few hours a month saves me $400/month then yeah I have an abundance of time.
- WalterBright 4y agoMy home theater is mostly pieced together from thrift store stuff.

- troyvit 4y agoIt is not just nice but fantastic to not care if a chair is black, white, adjustible, etc. and instead just buy a chair.
- selfhoster11 4y agoMy point is that it’s sometimes not just any chair that you need, but a particular uncommon kind (say, a bar stool). That makes it impractical to rely on shops to have an item like that available.
