Worked for myself for two decades. While I enjoyed the freedom, it has its downsides (e.g. no sick pay). I work for a large corporation now and enjoy it a lot. Strong unions ensure good pay and great, family friendly working conditions. I even get days off for taking care of my kid (in full pay). I also enjoy working with colleagues. When I was self employed, I had occasional contractors / collaborators working with me on projects, but that’s not the same as loyal colleagues who always have your back. Most importantly, as others here stated, do something you love.
