This is closer to a root or wine cellar. It will let you store perishables longer but as good a proper fridge does.
Big plus, no external power needed.
- retrac 4y agoSome things (root vegetables and berries come to mind) may do better at a cool dry 10 - 15 °C rather than in a fridge just above freezing. A typical fridge's condensation is their enemy.
- jaclaz 4y agoI believe not even to the declared 10° (Celsius) that look overly optimistic, that thingy is very near the surface, and temperature will be more in the 12-18° in warmer months. I think not so casually there is the option for an external cooling unit. And of course the "basic" night ventilation (battery powered) seemingly doesn't count as electricity, the "No household electricity needed." seemingly means "You don't need to provide an electricity connection to mains, you will have the privilege of periodically disconnect the xx Kg battery, move it to your house, recharge it, then move it back and reconnect it, that is all good for your health, it is exercise". And the list price is almost 16,000 Euro (to which you have to add the exacavation, refill and gardening/restoring surface, all in all likely more than 20,000 Euro final total cost to have a cellar that doesn't cool anything (at the most keeps contents "fresh"), that is scarcely accessible (think when it rains). Let me also doubt seriously that in many countries a permit won't be required for placing this pre-fabricated cellar. The installation manual: https://www.groundfridge.com/upload_directory/files/GF%20Manual%20Installation.pdf https://www.groundfridge.com/upload_directory/files/GF%20Man... is - as I see it - pure folly, among other oddities, they instruct to pour ten liters on water in the bottom, but they never say to (or how) to remove this water, at a minimum there should be a small bilge pump (that might be needed anyway in case some rain enters the cellar).
