Services like FeedBurner used to be needed for Podcasts because badly written podcast catchers would poll the RSS once a minute without any regard for caching or taking any indication of when the next episode is due. Is this still the case?
- trynewideas 4y agoI mean, it's still the case, but web servers can shrug off rapid polling a lot better now than in 2004. FeedBurner used to do a lot more (analytics, resyndication awareness, custom content/ads) before Google rot set in. A lot of that is easier to do now than it was 15+ years ago.
- foxhop 4y agodid you know Google Analytics is going away in 2023?! it seems like Google is exiting the public web Analytics sphere (perhaps to avoid looming monopolies or anti competitive suites)
- orf 4y agoThat’s not even remotely true
- bilekas 4y agoAny source for this? It's completely new to me and seems like the worst idea possible. They get so much valuable data from people using it..
- foxhop 4y agohttps://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11583528?hl=en https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11583528?hl=en Universal Analytics will be going away Last updated: March 16, 2022. Visit this page in the coming months for the latest information. Google Analytics 4 is our next-generation measurement solution, and it's replacing Universal Analytics. On July 1, 2023, standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits. If you still rely on Universal Analytics, we recommend that you prepare to use Google Analytics 4 going forward.
- tootie 4y agoThat's not exiting the business. That's making a big upgrade that isn't backwards compatible. Probably to weed all the thousand of dormant sites that slapped GA on their sites then never got any traffic.
