- cmeacham98 4y ago+1, that guide is a beacon of light in the sea of misinformation about what extensions to use. I agree with almost everything on it.
- dngray 4y agoYes "we" (privacyguides.org) consult with the authors of that project as well as a few others. It was nice to see they quoted our blog article https://www.privacyguides.org/blog/2021/12/01/firefox-privacy-2021-update/ https://www.privacyguides.org/blog/2021/12/01/firefox-privac... We've been on a bit of a mission of trying to dissuade people from "old thinking" of installing a gazillion "privacy extensions".
- pville 4y agoAre the abbreviation tooltips written by hand or generated programmatically? In "Total Cookie Protection (TCP)" it says TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol.
- Semaphor 4y agoJust a quick FYI: > We also noticed that there isn’t an option for HTTPS-Only mode. Firefox on Android does support that, nowadys.
- Dracophoenix 4y agoWhy do "you" (as in PrivacyGuides) keep ProtonMail on the recommended list of email services after it was revealed the company disclosed IP information on a consumer to French authorities? I would think this would be an important consideration in your assessment of the company. https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/6/22659861/protonmail-swiss-court-order-french-climate-activist-arrest-identification https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/6/22659861/protonmail-swiss-... At the very least mentioning this information would be beneficial to your readers.
- morjom 4y agoDoesn't ProtonMail the company fight back on most inquiries and demands and they get and that French thing was just one of the ones they lost the ground on because France used Europol contacts to file the warrant Switzerland? (Might be misremembering)
- ravenstine 4y agoYes, within the context of Tor. Outside of Tor, I'm not going to be held hostage by trackers such that I'm forced to allow fonts in a way that makes me look average. By using any amount of ad blocking, script blocking, no-opping, href cleansing, and so on, I'm making myself more identifiable by any tracking that still manages to work. Whatever. At least I've reduced the amount of time it takes for a page to render.
- weberer 4y agoThat guide keeps mentioning something called RFP, but never explains what that stands for or how to install it.
- cmeacham98 4y agoRFP is Firefox's 'Resist Fingerprinting' setting: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-protection-against-fingerprinting https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-protection-agai... The guide is meant to go along with the arkenfox user.js from that repo (previously known as ghacks user.js), and I highly recommend checking out the rest of the repo if you are privacy-conscious.
