In a similar vein, LocalCDN is an extension to serve the most common javascript libraries from your browser instead of going to 3rd party servers, while there are edge cases when you use a local copy, I've rarely had an issue.

- pbronez 4y agoAnother option for this is https://decentraleyes.org/ https://decentraleyes.org/
- molticrystal 4y agoLocalCDN actually started as a fork of decentraleyes with much more included and is updated more often.
- dngray 4y agoDecentraleyes resources are hugely out of date to the point where it does nothing.
- vmoore 4y agoTried this when it was actively developed and it done nothing but spew a load of errors in my browser console. Not sure if that was intended, but it made me cry looking at all the errors. It also broke many sites, where the proper jQuery version wasn't served, and a bunch of CSP errors in my console too. On top of this, it increases the fingerprintability of the browser, so this was an easy uninstall.
- wbobeirne 4y agoThis will do nothing for websites that are built with bundlers, since the site-specific code will be in the same file making it unique. Probably still catches a good few though.
- notimetorelax 4y agoI thought the whole point is to avoid sending HTTP requests to third party sites. At least for privacy. So in a way who cares if this sites give you all the content instead of just part of the content?
- cmeacham98 4y agoLocalCDN provides no meaningful privacy gains over enabling Total Cookie Protection (i.e. dynamic FPI, already enabled by default in modern versions of Firefox) and disabling cross-site referers, which you should do anyways.
- dngray 4y agoThis, it's also why it's in the category of "don't bother" https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/wiki/4.1-Extensions#-dont-bother https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/wiki/4.1-Extensions#-don... not only that it will make your browser easier to fingerprint as one of the Tor developers pointed out.
- cmeacham98 4y ago+1, that guide is a beacon of light in the sea of misinformation about what extensions to use. I agree with almost everything on it.
- dngray 4y agoYes "we" (privacyguides.org) consult with the authors of that project as well as a few others. It was nice to see they quoted our blog article https://www.privacyguides.org/blog/2021/12/01/firefox-privacy-2021-update/ https://www.privacyguides.org/blog/2021/12/01/firefox-privac... We've been on a bit of a mission of trying to dissuade people from "old thinking" of installing a gazillion "privacy extensions".
- pville 4y agoAre the abbreviation tooltips written by hand or generated programmatically? In "Total Cookie Protection (TCP)" it says TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol.
- Semaphor 4y agoJust a quick FYI: > We also noticed that there isn’t an option for HTTPS-Only mode. Firefox on Android does support that, nowadys.
- jalino23 4y agofirst time I've seen codeberg is this the github/gitlab alternative?
- classified 4y agoyes. they use gitea, btw.
- lelandfe 4y agoWith caches now partitioned in all browsers, and CDN-hosting your code now strictly a worse option overall, it's becoming rarer and rarer for this extension to activate in my browser. I'm likely to uninstall it soon, which is a good thing.
