How Far Must Medicine Go to Fulfill Subjective Desires?
- bediger4000 4y agoIsn't the answer here "as far as the market wants it to"?
- bell-cot 4y agoAnswer: As far as needed to get lots of "trans" culture war outrage clicks. I was never a regular National Review reader, but my impression is that their quality has gone a long, LONG way downhill from "the good old days". Their article can't seem to articulate that if I can pay for tricky surgery to fix my hip joints, then I should be allowed to risk it. Ditto a really expensive hair transplant, for mere vanity's sake. Or suggest that a kid born without a left arm, or a veteran who lost his right leg might have better moral claims to society paying the medical bill than somebody who feels that they're the wrong gender? It's as if the nation's flagship conservative magazine was replaced by a barrel-scraping supermarket tabloid, and reduced to running "I Was the Kidnapped Bride of Bigfoot, and Discovered That He's An Illegal Space Alien Welfare Cheat!" stories.
