I'm having a blast working on https://printnanny.ai/ https://printnanny.ai/ - the embedded computer vision system is cool, plus there are many meaty unsolved problems in the 3D printing universe. To name a few...
- Rolled a Linux distribution (PrintNanny OS) designed for mixing/matching controller software across a manufacturing "fleet".
- Created an atomic upgrade/rollback system.
- Built a WebRTC stack for live camera streaming.
- Lots of fun applying queue theory to distribute work across a fleet.
I'm learning a lot about how the government contract/bid process works, which I've always been insulated from as an engineer (even when working at companies known for gov support, like Red Hat).
My biggest customers tend to serve an ultra-specific niche, which is always fun to learn about. I love getting to talk to people who have spent thousands of hours cracking the laser tag gun market in Canada, or top RV parts supplier in Pacific Northwest, etc. There are entire worlds-within-worlds out there. =)
- m00x 4y agoPretty interesting. Have you worked with existing manufacturers that do this like BambuLab?
- grepLeigh 4y agoI haven't done any OEM deals, but I think that's an interesting angle! BambuLab added lidar defect detection to their lineup. Prusa recently launched "Prusa Connect" for remote file management. One insight that I have is that 3D printing ("additive manufacturing") is just one process among dozens used by small manufacturing shops. The hardware vendors launching software clouds/products are missing the bigger picture, which is that manufacturers need ERP and production schedule management way more than a "file cloud" per hardware vendors.
- flutas 4y agoThat's an awesome one. I recently had wondered why the only one I knew of was spaghetti detective. Just a heads up. Trying to preorder gives a stripe error (below) from the orders endpoint. Copy also says 50% off then shows a $199.99 original price and $149.99 discounted price (25% not 50%). > Request req_JF7zd2A0rO1rXY: One or more provided prices do not have a `tax_behavior` set which is required for automatic tax computation. Please visit https://stripe.com/docs/tax/products-prices-tax-categories-tax-behavior#tax-behavior https://stripe.com/docs/tax/products-prices-tax-categories-t... for more information.
- grepLeigh 4y agoOops, thank you so much for letting me know! I'm trying to roll out Stripe's tax product for VAT this week. If you send a quick hello to leigh@printnanny.ai, I can ping you when that's fixed. I'll honor the 50% discount too - thanks for catching that copy snafu.
