Do you think anyone paying >1k for a Pokémon or Magic card is actually using them to play?! That shit is in a sealed case and only sees daylight to impress people or to resell it. I've met collectors who use home printed cards because they are too scared to damage even 10$ cards.

- Jack000 4y agothey should set up a fractional reserve system, where you deposit your valuable cards at a card bank and get a "card voucher" you can then use to play actual games with. The card bank could then lend out the cards to other players for profit. over time, you may not even need the actual cards anymore and just have the vouchers.
- mahkeiro 4y agoYes I do! My legacy decks have a value between 5-10k and they see play almost every week. Just go to a tournament to see people playing with the real cards as proxy are not allowed. For Magic the high price is mainly driven by the need to have copies to be able to play.
