I wouldn't work from e.g. Iran, or you could get sued to death when your customer is indicted for violating US sanctions, but yeah why would your employer care? Oh, because maybe they have various insurance and partner contracts that speak about your physical location. If your contract doesn't say where you are, then work from anywhere, and follow whatever laws. If your contract does say where you are, then violate the contract an your own risk.
