While the focus of many will be on memory safety (which is important for sure), I think the idea that adding Rust as a second language to make the kernel more approachable for a new generation of developers is very compelling. It's a very "skate to where the puck is going, not where it is" mindset.

"Rust is one of those things that I think might bring in new faces," he said, and, "We're getting old and gray." And, wow, what happened to Linus. Love it.
