Next Phase of Vancouver-Seattle-Portland High-Speed Rail Study
- floxy 4y agoI didn't seem to see how fast this "high-speed" train was supposed to run. Anyone have details on that aspect? Would this be high-speed for the U.S., or actually competitively high speed compared to the rest of the world (like 200+ miles/hr)? I would hope they would reject anything lower than 200 mph, since that would seem to me to be about the breakeven point of the hassle involved with dealing with centralized train stations at the departure/destination, not having a car at your destination, having to deal with fixed schedules that the trains run on, dealing with whatever "security" there would be, arriving early to the station, boarding time, etc., and all of a sudden your hypothetical 1 hour trip from Portland to Seattle starts to look not-so-enticing.
- floxy 4y agoAnyone have a quick link describing the initial cost drivers for high speed rail? How much is the land/right-of-way vs. labor in preparing the ground, laying the rail, etc? Are robotic construction crews needed to really make rail take off in the U.S.?
