I have suggested many times to the people who demo their stuff at the farm for the agbots to use magnetic force for stuff we do with elbow grease… to park, for docking and attach/detach implements onto the tractor etc.
I am not an engineer and so I only did a rudimentary drawing. I didn’t have the numbers either. But I still intuitively gravitate towards magnets. For some reason, when making big agbots, this is no big deal, but when we make small bots for small acreage farms..especially for women(that’s what I am interested in …I am not looking to automate an already optimized combine).
Think about it..women, elderly, the physically challenged..people who normally have to wrestle with big machines for daily tasks will be able to do the difficult tasks with ease. It’s not a big deal for farm hands but big strong manly man farm hands are not using agbots for farming. Single operator farms run by women like me and plan to keep them going till we are old and frail are the ones who look to tech for assistance.
I have been firmly put in my place as a physics ignoramus… it may be a dumb idea but it’s seductively alluring for sure..I love magnets…we don’t use them enough.
I still feel that this is unexplored. Fwiw, hybrid and electric cars use powerful magnets for their brakes. They are used on tracks like at Disney maglev, baggage handling systems, people moving systems and anything that moves as long as there is no acceleration.
