Online aggression has two components:
* Boorish jerks, conspiracy twits, science and logic illiterates, and moralizing hypocrites. People who spend a lot of their in-real-life lives expending everyone else’s patience, tolerance, and benevolence. Good-will vampires. Dissatisfied assholes who make it everyone else’s problem.
* People who have had enough of the former. Their tolerance reserves are fully tapped out. They’re tired of having to re-explain reality to the obstinately uninformed. Tired of turning the other cheek when a stranger is offensive. Angered that their children’s education, health, and safety is being compromised. Fed up with politely “agreeing to disagree” and accepting the harm.
Amd so the two groups fight like cats tied in a burlap sack and beat with a stick.
You can consider the stick, in this scenario, to be the likes of privateers like Cambridge Analytica, government and corporate media agencies, and other “influencers”. A third component, I suppose: I doubt things would be so bad if deliberate instigation & disinformation were not in play.
You’ll draw your own conclusions about which people/uncles/accounts belong to one or the other group.
