- PaulHoule 4y agoIt boggles my mind that they are risking the destruction of one of their best export industries with the chaos at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia_Nuclear_Power_Plant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia_Nuclear_Power_Pla... As they never stopped building LWRs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVER#Power_plants https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVER#Power_plants and I think lead the world in selling nuclear reactors internationally. They offer a full range of fuel cycle services too and in fact have a much bigger market share in Uranium than they do in oil. (w/ the caveat that a lot of competitive Uranium production could come on the market if the demand for it was there.) On one hand an "accident" at Zaporizhzhia would hurt the industry as a whole but it would particularly mark the Russians as an unreliable partner.

Recycling the fuel feels like a moral imperative, something we have to do, if we care at all about having a long term future for humanity.
