Yeah, this is one of the many things on this list that isn't a new idea, see this RFC from June 2014: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/117 https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/117. I believe D has a `@trusted` attribute at the function level that serves a similar purpose.
