Mostly due to profiling, the JIT gets informed on actual program execution. I wouldn't word it as vastly superior, because if you have a JIT you're probably doing some kind of tradeoff (most of the times, memory usage?), but the JIT can optimize based on the runtime profile, where an AOT't program cannot.
