A higher gas tax is an obvious approach for both safety and climate change. We could lower income tax a little to make up for it and add a supplement for those who can least afford it.
- supertrope 4y agoOr just to keep up with road maintenance and construction costs. The Federal gasoline tax was last increased in 1993 and should have doubled by now to keep up with inflation. The end result is that Americans have revealed through their elected representatives that they prefer to keep fuel tax low and let general taxes pick up the slack. Big numbers on signs have undue influence on voter opinions.
