Ask HN: Looking for a program to write down ideas for a novel
Hello. I want to write a novel and i need something more specific than vim to write down ideas, characters, places etc. Something simple but still powerful to work with tags and categories. Help me pls! I don't mind if it's cli or gui, python or c++ but open-source software is preferable choice.
- ghilston 4y agoI've been loving writing raw markdown files with the program Obsidian: https://obsidian.md/ https://obsidian.md/ The files stay on your machine, so you can take the data and leave if you ever want to use a different program. Obsidian has a tagging feature and the ability to directly link one file, even a specific part of a file, to another. Check it out!
- Malaclypst 4y agoEverybody likes Obsidian, but IMO it's too bloated for my task.
- ghilston 4y agoInteresting! I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, but may I ask why you find it to be too bloated?
- inphovore 4y agoI’ve been using tiddylwiki for over a decade. It’s ease of use diminished a bit during the time of enhanced browser security (self saving single file html page), though modern browsers are beginning to provide this feature safely, as well as there being a number of alternative ways to run things (desktop app, iOS/android, service, browser plugins, etc.) No bloat! https://tiddlywiki.com/ https://tiddlywiki.com/
