- oifjsidjf 4y agoThis. Any shred of trust (not that there was much there to begin with) in EU media vanished during this Ukraine conflict. Meanwhile the media never reports how people are protesting on the streets and the farmer's protests.
- Comevius 4y agoRussia is the supplier under contract to supply natural gas. The whole faulty equipment song and dance is one of their classic bullying tactics. The sanctions aren't going to be lifted, because of the invasion, not to mention the abduction of more than a million Ukrainian people.
- simonblack 4y agoRussia is the supplier under contract to supply natural gas. And Siemens is under contract to keep the pumps serviced. One of the conditions when NordStream 1 was contracted was that Siemens would supply and service the pumps. Usually Russia supplies and services its own pumps.
- simonblack 4y agoAnd (for the time being, at least) the Europeans can choose to finally switch on the NordStream 2 pipeline which has been just sitting there for over a year. But they'd better hurry up if they want NordStream 2 for this Winter's gas. The Russians won't keep the allocation of gas available in the pipeline waiting on the Europeans to make up their minds for ever.
- wsc981 4y agoBiden won't allow Nord Stream 2 to be opened up though, and it seems he has more control over the pipeline than (the prime minister of) Germany: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4O8rGRLf8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4O8rGRLf8
- vegardx 4y agoYou keep repeating this statement everywhere. Where do you think Russia is going to sell this gas? To other nations, using non-existing pipelines? Right now Russia is burning off gas because they can't find a way to sell it. And nobody in Europe is under the illusion that gas will start flowing through the pipeline just because we decided to "open it". It will have a faulty turbine or develop a leak or whatever is the next thing they decide to cook up as a reason.
- simonblack 4y agoActually, you are quite correct. The EU has stated they want to stop using Russian energy as soon as possible, so it's a good thing indeed that both the EU and Russia have stopped those energy transfers more quickly than expected.
- wsc981 4y agoFrom what I read, The Netherlands is actually buying Russian gas through China. And The Netherlands is probably not the only EU country buying Russian gas through China [0]: > According to research firm Kpler, Europe’s imports of LNG have soared 60 per cent year on year in the first six months of 2022. As per Nikkei, more than 4 million tonnes of Chinese LNG has probably been resold — making up roughly 7 per cent of Europe’s imports in the first half of the year. So, Europe has been purchasing Russian LNG via China – while pretending like it is highly successful in its campaign to decouple from Moscow. > Therefore, a major part of natural gas currently in European storages continues to be of Russian origin – with the obvious caveat of it having been bought from China. --- [0]: https://www.news18.com/news/opinion/china-is-laundering-russian-gas-for-europe-will-the-west-still-lecture-india-5906257.html https://www.news18.com/news/opinion/china-is-laundering-russ...
