Tom Bombadil Mystery Solved
- jfengel 4y ago1. The original headline ends with a question mark. 2. Betteridge's law of headlines applies. (The text explicitly says that he does not attempt to solve the mystery of Tom Bombadil.)
- Grimburger 4y agoThe writer didn't even need to read the entire book mentioned in the first paragraph, quite sure Tolkien explicitly said Bombadil was always meant to be an enigma, all powerful and yet completely aloof from the world. As cliche as it is to say, utterly disappointed he was left out of Peter Jackson's movies, re-watching the entire 12 hours of the extended cuts, he clearly could have had some screentime amongst all the filler. Haven't watched Rings of Power but hope they drop him in somewhere, a character that well-loved surely deserves some fan service.

In that format Bombadil will make an excellent episode. In anything shorter it makes a lot of sense to leave him out. I agree that Jackson spent too much time showing battles, but it wasn't my movie to make.
