My pet theory is that people simply differ in what interests them: almost all people are highly articulate on topics/activities that interest them. (A common preoccupation is 'getting something for nothing' or 'how to get away with x'. There are a lot of geniuses in that field!) Only a narrow subset of humans are fascinated by intellectual matters. And the rest call them egg-heads.
