I know Python (and Lisp and Java), and have been looking for a summer internship. There was recently a startup fair in my hometown...and of the five or so internships available, 100% of them require Ruby (and Rails), 0% really care about Python (or any other language I know). I know Python has a huge userbase and has tons of software written in it...but it doesn't seem to be too trendy right now.

That's the point: "but it doesn't seem to be too trendy right now" and still, it's pops up every 2nd day here on HN. I am fine with Clojure, Haskell and the new functional trend but just don't get it with Python.
