Western societies have started to copy China because everthing else puts them at a competitive disadvantage.

- actionfromafar 4y agoBut does it though? China State is increasingly powerful, but it also looks increasingly brittle and more likely to shatter under stress. “The West” may have a less spectacular failure mode.

- actionfromafar 4y agoThe unhealthy posturing near Taiwan, the repression of minorities and the "social contract" between citizens (you get materially better lives) and ruler (no questioning of the ruler)... When things are built like that and crack, they crack deep.
- brabel 4y agoAll these things have been the same for several decades. They are not new signs of anything.
- actionfromafar 4y agoThey are the same, but the material wealth is not increasing anymore. What happens then? Taiwan conflict is edging from posturing to cold, hard steel.
