I have a cheap-ish Pixel 4a bought at launch. Never had a complaint with it, went through all the updates, I use it for mapping and listening to music daily as well as reading RSS. Never a slow down or any glitch, except for connecting some Bluetooth devices. As with all software, YMMV. At least Google is not throttling its CPU behind my back. Also, Snowden has outed Apple as one of the corps complying with any government for customer data so don't get too high on your horse.
