I agree, it is an old man rant. It is funny the lack of insight people have in their own intellectual journey. When you are a neophyte, of course all the old guard have all this intuition that you admine. Then when you are experienced every one around you doesn't seem like they know what they are doing. It's because you got better you clod, not that they got worse. Those people you admired when you were inexperienced wondered the same things about you when you didn't know what you were doing.
