    Most people have to pay for their internet connection. Gmail used to be ad-supported, but is now just a loss-leader for other Google products. Bittorrent is built on top of people's paid-for internet connections and cannot scale to anything like the size of YouTube. Cryptocurrencies have transaction fees.
