I have always found it really useful to go back to the first few examples of a device when learning about its function (e.g. https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/175004-the-genesis-of-the-transistor-the-single-greatest-discovery-in-the-last-100-years https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/175004-the-genesis-of-th...).
Love seeing it in large scale as it becomes just another simple device like a resistor or potentiometer.
- exmadscientist 4y agoIt's worth noting that that's a point-contact transistor, not a bipolar junction transistor. A rather different sort of cat (whisker)!
