" The Black man does not want or need the white woman. The Black man’s history shows that the white woman is the cause of his failure to be the true Black man. [from their college group's manifesto]
[from the article] The last rule caused some playful friction in the group. After the B.S.U. learned that a member was dating a white woman, the group convened a mock trial, found him guilty, and broke his Afro comb as a punishment. Thomas took the rule more seriously, particularly after meeting Kathy Ambush, a black woman, whom he would marry in 1971 and divorce in 1984. In a poem he called “Is you is, or is you ain’t, a brother?” he set out the obligations of black men to black women. Even in that milieu, Kevin Merida and Michael Fletcher reported in their 2007 biography, “Supreme Discomfort,” Thomas’s “edgy race consciousness” stood out. When he saw an interracial couple strolling on campus, he’d loudly demand, “Do I see a black woman with a white man? How could that be?” Until 1986, when Thomas met Virginia Lamp, who is white and would become his second wife, he opposed interracial sex and marriage."
With the recent Roe decision, he also wrote that the court should revisit contraception and same-sex marriage:

Isn't it convenient that he doesn't think interracial marriage should be re-examined, you know, considering that he's married to a white woman and all.

This particular meme takes the cake for both being kind of racist, and also ignorant about the Constitution. There’s an amendment specifically adopted after a bitter civil war to specifically address racial discrimination. Bans on interracial marriage fall easily within its very broad plain terms.

- tptacek 4y agoDo they? It took almost exactly a century after the ratification of 14A to reach the Loving decision. Thomas was attending Holy Cross at the time.
- dctoedt 4y agoOf the Civil War Amendments, neither the 13th nor the 14th Amendment mentions race, or marriage. The 15th Amendment mentions race, but only in respect of the right to vote.
