  They are good for following your specific brand/name. In my experience, Google alerts are very messy if you want to follow a specific subject/keyword, 90%+ of the alerts I receive are from weird websites that sell research data about a specific subject, or news-like content "what's new in domain X in 2022", which are completely irrelevant and seemingly related in a meta way, not in a direct way.
