For context:
A quick search on Trulia shows the most affordable home in a decent area (near panhandle / fillmore where I used to live) is $465,000 for a 1-bed, 1-bath condo. It is a BMR (Below Market Rate) unit, meaning if you earn more than $85,000 or so per year, you are not eligible.
Meanwhile, condos in Austin, TX start around $200,000 in decent areas (near UT Austin), and they are not "BMR / restricted".
