Whatever you think about election fraud in particular, the ultimate effect of these recommendation engines is to close everyone off into “filter bubbles” where they only see things that conform to their worldview, and are encouraged toward more and more extreme and polarized views. I can’t help but think this phenomenon explains many of the problems in the world today.
- guywithahat 4y agoThis doesn't seem very new though. Traditional news was the same way; like if I'm a Democrat, I'm not going to subscribe to the Epoch Times, I'm going to subscribe to the New York Times. Similarly if I'm interested in lgbt issues I'd have subscribed to pink news and not the National Review. People expect the same from algorithms, so maybe now if you're too paranoid about covid YouTube isn't going to instead recommend you a Joe Rogan video it'll recommend you the same content you've been watching
