I used to use airbnb quite a bit a few years ago but over time, I stopped. In my experience, the best rentals are the ones where the owner lives part of the time in the apartment, most of those have disappeared from the platform or it's difficult to find them. The professional rentals on airbnb tend to have very subpar beds and offer a much worse experience than hotels. Reviews are pretty much useless to differentiate between hosts and in the end, it's a race to the bottom. One tip btw, my parents hosts on airbnb and keep the account they use as customers entirely separated from their host account (and use a vpn to not have the same ip address between accounts).
