What are the alternatives for s3 ?
- dublin 4y agoNot sure what you're asking - within AWS or outside? You may be able to use external storage - there are hundreds of S3-compatible storage providers on the net, in addition to those offering filesystems, DB services, etc. Some of these are excellent, and avoid the downsides of the AWS services. (FWIW, all modern filesystems are databases, but most modern databases are crappy filesystems - we should be seeing much more convergence here than we are. But then I said that back in the 90's, too...) But remember that AWS is designed to lock you in, especially for your data - that's why traffic in (or within AWS is free, but all outbound traffic is actually quite expensive. Transit charges alone can often be the deciding factor in avoiding AWS services. Given that computers today are unimaginably more powerful than the largest computers of 2000 (a Raspberry Pi is roughly equivalent of a Cray or large mainframe then!), it's quite likely that you can actually do your work, run your company, etc. on resources that are far more affordable than our presently trendy morbidly obese software demands. Think about the info you really need - it's not usually all that large...
