Show HN: A mix between Hacker News and Twitter
Tech Noise - A social/news mobile app powered the tech community.
I just launched my startup ‘Tech Noise’. It’s a mix between Hacker News and Twitter. It has the minimal social/news aspect of hacker news with the subtle feel and design of Twitter along with its social features.
I would appreciate any feedback either good or bad, and especially bad. Likewise, you can submit feedback once you created an account and navigate to the settings screen by clicking on the settings bottom tab icon where you’ll see a button to submit feedback.
In addition, the app is available for download. Please keep in mind the app is open for testing to the public and I expect bugs lol. Once again, I would appreciate feedback :).
Remember, KEEP MOVING FORWARD, NEVER give up, and stay on your purpose and achieve your dreams and goals. YOU got this, keep the faith, and KEEP WORKING AND BELIEVING - dream, work, build, and create.
Peace and much love family!
- sn0w_crash 4y agoThis sounds awesome. But no iOS?
- Brysonbw 4y agoThanks for the feedback family! And right now it's in testing and I didn't develop the app on a mac nor do I have the funds to purchase an apple developer account. So, If you do have an iOS device you'll have to run the app through expo/expo go for right now. However, I do plan to solve this issue sometime this month.
- smt88 4y agoWhy is it a native app? A social/news network has no advantages as a native app and significant downsides. You're going to have 1,000x more difficulty getting people to try it if they have to install something.
- Brysonbw 4y agoYo wassup family, thanks for the feedback. Right now it's a cross-platform app. I only have it on Google Play stores because I didn't develop the RN app on a mac nor do I have the funds to purchase a apple developer account at the moment. However, I do understand your point about having to much friction to download the app, and I'll address the issue some time within the coming weeks. The plan is to buy a mac or maybe a virtual machine kind of thing for mac OS.
- smt88 4y agoI think you're misunderstanding my feedback. It should just be a web app. You'll never have a reason to create a native app if it's just a social network. Some more feedback: it looks like you're promising Twitter with a technology/entrepreneurship focus. That's like telling someone you're building an apartment building that only software developers will move into. You have to actively moderate the discussion (HN is one of the most heavily moderated social networks, if not the most). So what you're really pitching isn't a software issue, it's two things that have nothing to do with software: A) acquiring users, and B) making sure that they only post within your topic. Like most social networks, it's not a software challenge at all. The software part is easy. The challenge is marketing and moderation. To take it one step further: you shouldn't even bother to write your own code for this, since there are now a ton of open-source Facebook/Twitter/Reddit clones available. 1. https://github.com/topics/twitter-clone https://github.com/topics/twitter-clone 2. https://github.com/topics/social-network https://github.com/topics/social-network
- Brysonbw 4y agoAhhh I see, thank you for helping me shape my understanding. I will take note of what you've said.
