I live in the UK and we have a similar system here. I have a tax code assigned that describes my personal circumstances. My employer reports everything to the government. Taxes, refunds, etc, are all handled automatically through my paycheques. The only reason I would need to file a self assessment is if I had self employment income etc. It’s such a relief of stress every year. I hate the way the US (and Canada) does taxes.
